1) Theodore Roosevelt: The Story of the First Teddy Bear

First of all, can you guess in honor of whom the first teddy bear was invented? Did President Theodore Roosevelt  ? cross your mind? Because it is thanks to him that children can play and cuddle their stuffed toys today!

It all started on a bear hunting trip in Mississippi in 1902. Theordore had been invited to hunt, but he was the only one who had not yet found a single bear. Later, the hunt progressed and hunters tied a bear to a tree so Roosevelt could shoot one, but he refused to shoot the bear, leading to articles and reports about this remarkable event! The public could not believe their eyes!

But the teddy bear didn't come so quickly... After this event, a political cartoonist ? named Clifford Berryman read several articles about this topic and satirized the event in the newspapers with a cartoon. Finally, Morris Michtom, a candy store owner, saw the cartoon and had an idea.  He and his wife also made stuffed animals, and Morris Michtom decided to create a teddy bear and dedicate it to the president who refused to shoot a bear.

He called it " Teddy Bear ." After receiving permission from Roosevelt to use his name, Michtom mass-produced the teddy bears and soon founded the Ideal Toy Company, since the bears were so popular.  To learn more about the subject, you can check out the history of the teddy bear  to learn more about it.

5) The Largest Collection of Teddy Bears

The largest collection of teddy bears consists of 20,367 pieces . This world record was set by Arnóczki Istvánné and Guinness World Records in Harsány, Hungary ?, on April 27, 2019.

So what’s the story behind her collection? How can we make our collection grow like hers? Well… As a child, Arnóczki grew up poor and never owned a teddy bear. Of course, she was a young girl who dreamed of having one she could cuddle at night. Arnóczki’s collection was put on display when she bought her very first teddy bear in 1978 , when she was in her early twenties. She hasn’t stopped buying more since then!

Today, her personal collection, consisting of objects she has purchased and received as donations, is kept in the Teddy Bear Museum in her village in Hungary .

We also did a blog post about Jackie and Arnóczki's largest collection of teddy bears in the world . We invite you to check it out if you're interested!
